Today I walked around in Oslo, and on the islands near bye, with 250 other photographers. The same thing happened in all major cities in Norway. It´s the “national photo walk”. This optical illusion was taken at the Opera House.

How do I like my new Olympus OM-D?

Unboxing my OM-D

In short. This is the best camera I’ve had. I have two camera systems: a Nikon D700, which I use for my portable studio setup, and a Panasonic GH2 for everyday use. I sold my GH2 two weeks ago and bought the new Olympus OM-D E-M5. It has equally good low light performance as my full frame D700, but not quite the dynamic range. But compared to my D700, OM-D is tiny. It´s even smaller than the GH2.

The dynamic range and ISO-performance is noticeably better than the GH2. The OM-D makes it easy to see when you reach the boundarys. In one of the shooting modes you can see the clippings of highlight and shadows in live view. This is the shooting mode I prefer. It’s actually pretty hard to clip the highlights with this camera, and pushing the shadows doesn’t introduce too much noise either. Using Lightroom 4 is a huge advantage, as it will give almost a full stop extra dynamic range compared to using other RAW developing software as the included OLYMPUS Viewer 2.

This camera is weather sealed and has a full metal body. It feels very sturdy. One of the drawbacks is the ergonomics. I’ve ordered the extra battery grip, HLD-6, and I hope the camara will be better to hold one handed. One aspect that is normally overlooked, is the sound of the shutter. It’s really quiet and almost beautiful. Combined with the tilable screen, this camera is really stealthy.
I´m also impressed by the sharp details it captures. I think it´s due to a weak AA-filter in front of the sensor. The portrait in the post below is shot with the OM-D using a Olympus 45 mm f/1.8 lens wide open. It´s almost too sharp for a portrait. The OM-D is a bit prizy, but I believe it´s worth the extra cash.

Strawberry Heart

Strawberry Heart

This is a song I wrote many years ago. Lyrics by Andreas Frølich, melody and performance by me. I still like it, even though it´s badly recorded and performed.

Hope
This is the heart of a pig. The heart is lying on a glass plate with a softbox and a SB600 beneath. (1/128) On each side of the hearth theres a SB900 (1/64) And above theres a SB600 (1/128) in a softbox. There is also an another glassplate above the heart covered with ice. The trick was to use a hair dryer to get the right opacity in the ice.
